From Mobile to Manchester

Phil Peel

Hailing from Mobile, Alabama, the Red Clay Strays performed at the O2 Ritz in Manchester last August, as part of their first ever European tour, and we were fortunate enough to be in attendance.

We were first introduced to the Red Clay Strays a couple of years ago through Easter Seals Camp Ascca, which is the Camp in Alabama where our Founder/Project Manager Phil Peel spent three summers as a Camp Counselor. The band have performed at Camp Ascca on several occasions and the opportunity to see them live in Manchester was something we couldn't pass up.

The gig was electric and we were genuinely blown away by just how good these guys are, it was an evening we certainly will not forget in a hurry. The Red Clay Strays are led by the charismatic lead vocalist and guitarist Brandon Coleman, and the chemistry with the other bands members i.e. Drew Nix (electric guitar, vocals, harmonica), Zach Rishel (electric guitar), Andrew Bishop (bass) and John Hall (drums) was evident as they performed tracks from their latest album 'Made by these Moments'.

The album is robust and poweful with meaningful lyrics, this really is Southern rock at it best and the opening track 'Disaster' is an anthem that echoes early Kings of Leon.

Critical acclaim for Made by These Moments includes..

“Country meets rock, making the perfect blend of genres”—Billboard

"The Strays’ sound delves as much into high-flying Southern rock and gritty delta blues as it does country, sounding like Waylon Jennings or Johnny Cash one minute, then Lynyrd Skynyrd or Elvis Presley the next”—Grammy.com

“refreshingly muscular and redemptively soulful”—Rolling Stone

We were delighted to include an article about the Red Clay Strays in the latest edition of Sociable, with thanks to Cody Payne from Conway Entertainment Group, for his support. We were fortunate enough to meet Cody and Drew Nix (guitarist and songwriter) from the Red Clay Strays at the gig in Manchester.

We would also like to reserve a special mention for Nolan Taylor, a singer songwriter from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Nolan performed before the Red Clay Strays took to the stage in Manchester, and we briefly met him before the gig in a local restaurant. Nolan, was awesome, and his music expresses a truly heartfelt experience, which shone through in his song Darkness.

Both the Red Clay Strays and Nolan Taylor also feature on the soundtrack of the movie Twisters which was released in 2024.

Since the gig, we have introduced some friends and followers to both the Red Clay Strays and Nolan Taylor and we can assure you no one was disappointed!

As our home city of Liverpool is renowned for its music with legendary acts such as The Beatles and Echo and the Bunnymen, we hope one day both the Red Clay Strays and Nolan Taylor get to perform in this city of ours. It would truly be an unforgettable experience.
